Ajaccio (Corsica)

Corsica is the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean, and probably has the most varied landscape. As a result it is also known as “L’île de beauté” – Island of Beauty. Tall mountains inland turn to sandy beaches on an azure coast, with long white sandy beaches.
Ajaccio is the birth place of Napoleon Bonaparte, and situated on a wide bay. A thriving port city, part of this magnificent bay is lined by an impressive tree-line promenade where locals and tourists strut their stuff. Leading to the town centre from here is a warren of narrow little streets, ending on the main square where a daily market offers local produce such as cheese (most famously Brocciu), wine, pastries, and liqueurs. Corsican wines are solid and colourful like the island itself. The food is excellent: sausages, smoked hams and salamis with an Italian influence. Wild boar, goat and lamb are popular, and fish and shellfish are found in abundance. Cheese and dishes prepared with sweet chestnuts are another specialty.

By car

The N193 connects the airport and the city centre. To get to the city centre, turn west out of the airport and follow the signs. The N193 also connects the airport with many other main roads on the island.

By coach

A regular shuttle bus operates between the airport and Ajaccio. Journey time is approximately 20 minutes, and a one-way ticket costs approximately €4.50.

By taxi

The taxi rank is located outside the passenger terminal. Journey time is around 10 minutes. Taxis are available from the arrival of the first to the last flight of the day.
