Helsinki

Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is such a diverse city. Discovered by the Swedes, it later became part of Russia. To this day you can still find evidence of Russian and Swedish influences. Around you, you will see Russian Architecture, however you will experience the Scandinavian way of life.

With plenty to see and do, it’s a great place to visit for all the family. For the children, or the child in you, there is the Linnanmäki Amusement Park. With lots of rides, arcades and live entertainment it’s a fun packed day out.

There is also a sea life centre which is home to many species from the Baltic Sea and the Artic Ocean. Or why not visit one of the oldest zoos in the world - Korkeasaari Zoo. There is approximately 200 different species of animals to see!

For a touch of history and culture, pay a visit to the Uspenski Cathedral – the biggest Orthodox Church in Europe. The building is based on a church which can be found in the centre of Moscow, and is a real reminder of the days when Finland belonged to Russia.

However, one of the most visited attractions in Helsinki is the Soumennlina Fort, an historic military monument. It’s now home to many museums and galleries, bars and cafes. During the summer months it’s a great place to enjoy live musical performances.

After an action packed day, you have the choice to dine in some of the best restaurants in Finland and you will find everything from local cuisine to fast food.

Helsinki really comes to life at night – it really is the place to party in Scandinavia. Whether you want a quiet drink in a bar or a lively club to dance away the night in, Helsinki will not disappoint.

Airport information

Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is approximately 19km from the city centre.

By bus
You will find the buses outside the terminal building. If you are travelling to a nearby hotel, the bus journey is free of charge.

If you are travelling to the city centre you need to take buses 415, 451, 615 or 519.

Journey time is approximately 40 minutes.

By taxi
The taxi rank is situated directly outside the terminal building. The journey takes around 30 minutes and costs approximately 30€.
